I used to love reading her stuff—she featured regularly in the old School Journals.
I read this sometime in my late 30's after reading a great review online. I felt a little strange perusing the children's section of the library, but the story was excellent!
I think I'm going to check this out. Thanks for posting. :)
Sounds interesting. It might have to be added to my Christmas list. Thanks for sharing! =)
The new cover not anywhere near as good. Still highly recommend the contents though.
We have a collection of her stories for younger children called Wonderful Me and also a couple of her picture books, Lion in the Meadow and another one about a witch in search of cakes. They are all really good.
I borrow a lot from the young adult section of the library. i think a lot of books and writers are wrongly pigeonholed as 'young adult' when really they have the potential to appeal to a much wider audience. Can think of loads of Australian 'young adult' authors like that.
Hope you like it Michelle. I first found out about this book because a friend (who was training to be an English teacher) said it was her favourite book ever and she couldn't wait to teach a unit on it.
Hope you like it, Paige.

thanks Budd. I hope this leads to a run of sales on this book! It really is so much better than the Twilight books.

Congrats on being on the Vox front page.
Thanks Michelle. Don't think I have been on before, just had some of my questions used.
Congratz for being on the front page. Sounds like a good book. Another thing to add to my christmas list.
Thank you. Hope you get it and enjoy it as much as I did. :)

I didn't read this book until I was perhaps 30 -- a few years ago. LOVE IT. I'm not a Twilight fan at all, but I would recommend The Changeover to anyone who seemed like they might be open to it.
Glad to meet a fellow Margaret Mahy fan. have you read any of her other books? I love her writing and think her books are SO MUCH BETTER than the Twilight books.
Lol, it's not hard to be better than the Twilight books. Still, I give them credit for being a phenomenon.

As someone who loves children's/young adult lit (I'm 22 and I studied it as my major) It's always disappointing to me to see how many wonderful books get shoved into the children's area, when they are really for everyone. Thanks for the recommendation though, I'll definitely check this out!
thanks CG. Be sure and stop by again and let me know what you think of the book. :)

I agree, Cinnamingirl (great tune :) Just because the main characters in a book are of a certain age range doesn't mean the writing style or concepts are meant for that same group of readers. I can't imagine trying to help my seven year old nephew decipher the sixth HP book, but it's in the 7-12 y.o. section.. I thought this very thing as I picked up New Moon this weekend, which was at the end of an aisle in B&N. The bookstores seem so disorganized to me, so I prefer buying online (Amazon addict). But sometimes instant-gratification requires more effort.. While Meyer's books may not be literary masterpieces, I do enjoy the storyline, and the first-person, present tense point of view. And her descriptions allowed me to really visualize the story, to let my imagination fill in the gaps, almost make it "my" story. The movie wasn't "bad", and the actors were easy on the eyes - I personally think Kristen looks even more attractive with the brown contacts.. But the movie didn't match up to what I had already envisioned by reading the books - the same as all the HP movies..

btw - thanx, Empress, I'll check this out :)

Thanks for stopping by, Jake. Margaret Mahy also has books suited to the 7yo age group, eg, her short story collections "Wonderful Me" etc. There might be more info on them on UK rather than US sites though. Also try Roald Dahl for your nephew. My daughter thinks The Twits is the funniest book ever. James and the Giant Peach also a good one for that age.
